Marcel Desailly suggests Tottenham player needs to stop being ‘afraid’

Marcel Desailly has suggested that Harry Kane can’t be ‘afraid’ to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Kane’s future looks set to dominate the headlines once again as he approaches the final year of his deal at Tottenham.

The Telegraph reported last month that sources at Spurs believe there is little chance of the 29-year-old renewing this summer.

Yet, Tottenham will be hoping to convince their talisman to stay by bringing in a manager that will guide the club back on the right path.

But former Chelsea defender, Marcel Desailly, has told beIN Sports that Kane needs to seek out a new challenge ahead of next season.

Desailly suggests Kane needs to stop being ‘afraid’

Desailly suggested that Kane needs to stop being ‘afraid’ of taking the next step in his career and that he’d like to tell the England captain this himself.

“When I was playing, Tottenham were in the same situation,” Desailly said. “No leadership, nothing. How many trophies they’ve won since 98 until now, it’s something that will be repeated.

“Like we’ve said, he might get a good contract or they might renew, but the idea like [Robert] Lewandowksi. He moved from a different type of club like Bayern Munich but he wanted to face something different, achieve something different – trophy, language, culture.

“Something different that you keep after football. So, he has to really wake up and either bring a better leadership into the system as Conte has revealed, or he has to move.

“Don’t be afraid, there’s a life after Tottenham. Don’t be afraid. This is what I’d like to tell him.”

Tottenham fans are probably growing tired of hearing pundits and former players urging Kane to leave this summer.

Of course, the Spurs star will face a big decision over his future in the coming months, but the club will have the final say on whether or not he leaves in the next transfer window.

Kane did seek a move away from Tottenham a couple of years ago as Manchester City explored a deal to sign him. Daniel Levy blocked the move at the time, but Kane does hold a bit more of a say over his future this time around due to his contract situation.

It’s set to be an intriguing few months ahead at Tottenham as they bid to appoint a new manager, director of football and determine Kane’s future.
