Many Liverpool fans laud Michael Edwards over Danny Ings transfer

Danny Ings has completed a permanent £20 million move to Southampton (Liverpool Echo) – and many Liverpool fans have praised the club’s sporting director Michael Edwards.

The striker spent the 2018/19 on loan at St. Mary’s Stadium, where he was able to get regular game time following his injury problems at Anfield.

All in all, former Burnley striker Ings made 25 appearances and scored eight goals and made three assists.

Ings was signed by Southampton on a season-long loan last summer, but Edwards made sure to include an obligation to buy – which has now been revealed to be worth a cool £20 million.

£18 million of that will be banked straight away, with £2 million to come in add-ons.

The clauses do not stop there – Edwards also included a 20% sell-on, meaning the Reds are in line for even more money in the future.

It is truly brilliant business by Liverpool, with Ings having only made 25 appearances for the club after signing for just £6.5 million from the Clarets.

Liverpool fans react

Many Liverpool fans have showered Edwards with praise over the Ings deal.

The striker didn’t really contribute much and was never likely to get regular game time at Anfield, but Edwards has somehow managed to make back almost three times what they paid for him.
