Freddie Ljungberg chose to leave £25million (BBC) summer signing Kieran Tierney on the bench as Arsenal suffered a home defeat to Brighton on Thursday night – and Gunners fans have hammered the interim manager for starting Sead Kolasinac.
Arsenal’s shambolic defensive displays continued as David Luiz and Sokratis failed to cope with man of the match Neal Maupay, who scored the winner with ten minutes to play. His header left Bernd Leno with no chance.
Graham Potter’s side had taken the lead against a hapless Arsenal, as lofty centre-back Adam Webster found the back of the net. Alexandre Lacazette equalised immediately after the second half, after a brief period of Arsenal pressure.
But Brighton dominated chances throughout the match, with Arsenal giving Graham Potter’s side a pretty easy task of beating the north Londoners away from home. Maupay scored with David Luiz nowhere to be seen.
Tierney, meanwhile, was introduced after 73 minutes for Kolasinac, and looked tidy in possession and swung some excellent crosses into the box. One delivery was headed on goal by fellow sub Gabriel Martinelli, but it was well saved by Mat Ryan.
Arsenal fans reacted on Twitter after the match following a hugely frustrating night that saw boos ring round the Emirates Stadium at the full-time whistle. Many have hammered Ljungberg for choosing to start Tierney on the bench.
Imagine not starting Tierney in that defence. Freddie Ljungberg has no IKEA what he’s doing.

Why is Ljungberg not playing Tierney.. Smh

Ljungberg thinks Kolasinac is better than Tierney? I've already lost any hope in his quality as a coach.

That Ljungberg thinks Kolasinac should start over Tierney already gives me bad vibes about him…Let's not even talk about the fact that we are playing 3 CMs at home to a trash Brighton team…and the useless diamond formation…I hope sha #AFC
