Liverpool are sitting in the best position they’ve been in for many years.
The Reds are reigning European and Super Cup champions, got 97 points in the Premier League last season and lead the way domestically by eight points this term.
It’s looking very much like their wait for a first Premier League title will come to an end next May.
Jurgen Klopp has totally transformed Liverpool since taking over in November 2015, and they are surely the most feared team in Europe right now.
But just why, besides the obvious of having world-class players in their squad, are they so far ahead of most other teams? Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane have put forth a common suggestion.
In an interview with FIFA, the full-back said: “I’d probably say the intensity in our game. I’d say not many teams in the world can match us. The intensity that we put in, the numbers and the amount of running we do during games – not many teams can match that.
Mane added: “I think the pressing and the counter-pressing. We always do it at the training ground and we’re good at it. It’s one of the keys to our success.”
TBR’s view – Klopp press the secret to success
The way Liverpool are able to tirelessly hound their opponents really is second to none.
Liverpool are obviously quality in the final third, but they make life much easier for themselves due to the work they put in off the ball.
It is a relentless style and opponents simply cannot ever feel comfortable with the likes of Mane, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson buzzing around.
