Manchester United would happily let £58m player go for nothing in January

Manchester United have to chop some of their deadwood in the coming months.

The Red Devils have already shipped Jadon Sancho out to Borussia Dortmund, and he probably won’t be the only big-name departure in this period.

United need to trim the fat on their squad in order to get on with a potential rebuild under Jim Ratcliffe, and one player who’s seemingly at the end of the line at Old Trafford is Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman has outstayed his welcome at United, and according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, United are ready to completely wash their hands of him, stating that they would let him go for nothing at this point.

Martial can go for free

Jones shared what he knows about the £58m man.

“Martial’s situation is frustrating at this point, they want to get rid of him and they’re not expecting any money to come in for him, they would let him go for no money to be honest, even if an agreement could be struck right now they’re not expecting any money back on Martial,” Jones said.

Who would take him?

Man United may be willing to let Martial go for free, but we can’t see this move happening this month.

Martial is still on massive wages, and with just six months left on his deal, he won’t be in any rush to take an early paycut.

There’s no way that Martial can justifiably earn the wage he’s currently on at Old Trafford elsewhere, barring a move to Saudi Arabia, so, in our view, it’s much more likely that he end up staying until Manchester until his contract expires.

Jim Ratcliffe has a real job on his hands if he wants to clean up the mess that has been left for him at Old Trafford, that’s for sure.
