In a surprising transfer rumour from this weekend, Manchester United are thought to be keen on signing young Everton defender, Jarrad Branthwaite, during the summer.
According to the Daily Mail, United are keen on Branthwaite as they feel he is at the cheaper end of the spectrum of players they’ve drawn up. If they fail to reach the top four, then there are claims that the Red Devils will have a significantly reduced budget.

The Mail claims that Branthwaite is on the list of players that incoming new manager, Erik Ten Hag, could look to sign.
It’s thought that Branthwaite’s age and potential is seen by United as something they can harness. Of course, Frank Lampard has played the young defender just four times since he took over. Rather concerningly, Branthwaite played in the 3-2 loss at Burnley before being dropped for the Toffees’ 1-0 win over United last week.
Lauded as a ‘terrific’ player previously, the 19-year-old is very much in the early days of his career. He’s only just hit double figures in terms of Everton appearances, and he is contracted with the Toffees until 2025.
TBR’s View: Branthwaite Would Be Better Off At Everton
Sure, the lure of playing at Old Trafford is big and if the chance comes up, then it’s something Jarrad Branthwaite will have to consider. However, he is probably better off being with Everton.
Not only has he already broken into the first team picture there. But under Frank Lampard, he has a coach who has a proven record of bringing along young players. He did with Derby, and did the same with Chelsea before.
Branthwaite is a talented player for his age and will get better. But United need players for the here and now and like Everton, are a bit of a mess. In our opinion, he’d be better off staying put.
