The summer transfer window is well and truly under-way and newly appointed Manchester United manager, David Moyes, has so far remained fairly reserved in terms of transfer policy.
The Scot has taken a backseat role during the initial whirlwind of rumours and speculation. To date, Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela is the clubs only signing.
Negotiations at Old Trafford have set off at a much slower pace than usual this summer. Within the next few weeks expect to see a flurry of activity from within the club, as Moyes prepares to make an instant impact at Old Trafford.
Here’s a look at the players who have been linked with a move to Manchester United within the past few weeks.

United are closing in on the capture of the sought-after Barcelona playmaker, Thiago Alcantara, after detailed talks between the two clubs have finally resulted in a break-through.
Thiago is ready to turn his back on the Spanish club, for the promise of more regular football at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old, could become Moyes’ first big-name signing as the club’s new manager. He has been the star of the recent European Under-21’s Championship.
His stunning hat-trick in Spain’s 4-2 victory over Italy in the final served to underline why he is considered one of the hottest young talents in world football.
Thiago would be a fantastic signing for Manchester United.
Marco van Ginkel [label type=”info” text=”Vitesse”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
Marco Van Ginkel finds himself in the enviable position of being able to choose between two of English football’s giants.
Chelsea currently lead the chase for the player’s signature. The Blues have a pre-existing partnership agreement with his club, Vitesse Arnhem, and Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified Van Ginkel as a potential addition to his new-look Chelsea squad.
United have also expressed an interest in the player, however, with the club’s chief scout, Jim Lawlor, watching the attacking midfielder during Holland’s run to the semi-finals of the European Under-21 Championships in Israel this month.
The Dutch midfielder has scored 18 goals in 81 starts for his club side. At such a young age he could prove a promising signing for the Red Devils.
Kevin Strootman [label type=”info” text=”PSV Eindhoven”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
Manchester United look to have found their replacement for Paul Scholes as David Moyes looks to capture PSV’s Kevin Strootman this summer.
The Dutch midfielder has been a target for United for some time, and the Red Devils are understood to have stepped up their interest in him this summer following Scholes’ retirement from the game.
The 23-year-old jetted in to England to complete the move following his side’s exit in the European Under-21 Championships, where he impressed for the Netherlands in front of United’s scouting team.
Ezequiel Garay [label type=”info” text=”Benfica”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
According to reports a deal taking Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay to Manchester United is in the offing.
United and Benfica established a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in January that would see Garay sold to the English champs this summer – on approval of manager David Moyes.
A fee in the region of £15 million has been mentioned, with a significant portion going to Garay’s former club Real Madrid.
Negotiations are expected to now step up after Benfica swooped for Estoril defender Steven Vitória.
Garay would act as a suitable replacement for Rio Ferdinand as he nears the end of his playing career. The 26 year old is a key player for the Portuguese side and he could make a big impact should he move to the Premier League.
Cristiano Ronaldo [label type=”info” text=”Real Madrid”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are preparing to offer Wayne Rooney to clubs in hopes of freeing up funds for a deal to sign former star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rooney has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford ever since handing his second transfer request in the last three years. Ronaldo on the other hand has been rumoured to be joining Manchester United and David Moyes intends to to kill two birds with one stone.
Ronaldo has already denied signing a new contract at Real Madrid and with the winger putting his Spanish villa up for sale as well as Old Trafford not printing Valencia number 7 shirt next season, there are definite hints that a move for Ronaldo could be made.
