Report: Manchester United to slash £10m off asking-price for Newcastle and West Ham target

Both West Ham and Newcastle will be standing up and taking notice after The Sun reported that Manchester United could be willing to slash the asking-price of Jesse Lingard.

Lingard has been high on the wanted list of West Ham thanks to his hugely successful loan spell in London last season. David Moyes tried desperately to sign him in the summer, but fell short.

However, in recent days, Lingard has been the subject of links with Newcastle United as well. The Toon are set to be flush with cash following their takeover, and Lingard is among the players being mentioned.

And now, The Sun’s report of United slashing some £10m off the asking-price will be music to the ears of West Ham and Newcastle. It’s claimed United will take just £15m for Lingard now, which is a huge drop from the £25m they valued him at in the summer.

Lingard has yet to sign a new contract and the report states that Old Trafford officials would rather get something for the England man, rather than lose him for nothing.

TBR’s View: Lingard on the move?

He should be, really. There’s no point in sticking around in Manchester if he isn’t going to play much. He’s also back in the England frame, so if he can keep playing and playing well this season, he could even go to Qatar.

Lingard proved his worth with West Ham last season. £15m is a true bargain as well. For Newcastle, he’s the perfect first signing.

But West Ham love him, and he loved it at West Ham, so it’s worth not counting the Hammers out yet either.
