Manchester United think 19-year-old midfielder they want is as good as Moises Caicedo

Manchester United think that Oscar Zambrano has as much potential as Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo.

That is according to The Sun, which has reported interest in the Quito midfielder from a number of other clubs.

So, what has been reported about Manchester United and Oscar Zambrano? Let’s take a look.

Manchester United linked with Oscar Zambrano

Well, according to The Sun, Manchester United are interested in signing Oscar Zambrano from Quito in the January transfer window.

The report in the British tabloid has claimed that United see Zambrano “as having the same potential as Moises Caicedo”.

Caicedo joined Chelsea from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2023 for £115 million. Liverpool were linked with the Ecuador international midfielder before the Blues got the deal done.

The Sun, though, has noted that it will not be easy for United to sign Zambrano in the January transfer window. Other clubs in England are interested in the 19-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder.

Brighton and Hove Albion are keen on Zambrano. Bournemouth and Luton Town are ready to pay £5.5 million to his Ecuadorian club Quito.

There is another potential problem. According to The Sun, Zambrano “is due 15 per cent of the sale — and is being asked to waive that to get his dream move”.

The report has added that the midfielder’s “camp think they are entitled to the cash and will not budge”. It has been further claimed that “Luton do not want to make up the loss and the Cherries will have to do the same”.

My View: Manchester United should not hesitate to bid for Oscar Zambrano

In my view, if Manchester United are confident that Oscar Zambrano will be a big player for the future, then they should get a deal done now.

A transfer fee of £5.5 million and adding 15 per cent on top of it to make up for the loss to Quito should not be an issue for a club as big and wealthy as United, who have been linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

Zambrano is only 19 and is clearly not ready to play week in and week out for Erik ten Hag’s first team. But, if United think that he has huge potential, then the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners should get a deal done and then develop him.
