Dejan Lovren has finally jetted out to Russia to meet his new club Zenit St. Petersburg after officially signing last month, and a Manchester United star has put rivalry aside to wish Lovren all the best – following his Liverpool exit.
Lovren, 31, completed an £11million move to Zenit after falling down the pecking order at Anfield. Croatian giant Lovren had entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield – but Liverpool had the option to extend that.
That allowed the Reds to secure a healthy package for a player that is now well into his thirties. It saw Lovren’s six-year spell at Anfield, in which he has won the Champions League and Premier League – playing 154 times.
He posted a picture of himself with his new Zenit shirt on Instagram, confirming to supporters that he will be wearing the number six shirt as he looks to help Zenit make it a third consecutive league title come May 2021.
It leaves Liverpool in need of another central defender, with Joel Matip also being linked with the exit door. Ben White, who starred on loan at Leeds last season, and Sevilla’s Diego Carlos are possible additions.
Responding to his post, Ivory Coast international Bailly wished Lovren “good luck” as he aside the enemy-like rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool aside.
