The Sun report that goalkeeper David de Gea will have his contract extended using a clause in his existing deal to take it from expiring in 2019 to 2020. The change will also see the Spanish international’s wage increase from £180,000 per week to £200,000 per week to become one of the Premier League’s top earners.
De Gea has maintained his impressive form this season with three clean sheets in his past four games and has also been subject to reportedly renewed interest in his services from Real Madrid.
Attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has opened up on his struggles since his move to Manchester, though he now seems to have put those behind him after a run in the team. He told the Daily Mail:
“I played really bad against City. As a footballer you just have to try to learn what you’ve done bad and what I could do good. During that time, I had conversations with Jose Mourinho. You can feel the confidence he gives you. I kept talking to (agent) Mino Raiola. We are like two friends before anything else. He said, ‘Mikhi, you know what, this is life experience’. I said, ‘Mino, I know and I will never give up. I’ve had a long way to come to Manchester United and one day for sure I will play’.”
Mkhitaryan played the full 90 minutes in the derby against Liverpool yesterday and could have scored if it were not for a superb save from Simon Mignolet.
Another player to see his stay at Old Trafford extended is winger Jesse Lingard, who has put pen to paper on a new contract which will stretch to 2021 with an option for a further year in a deal worth £95,000 per week, say the Sun.
The 24-year-old has started just nine Premier League games this campaign and was left out of the squad completely for the visit of Liverpool to Old Trafford at the weekend.
