Jarrod Bowen scored his first West Ham United goal on Saturday as the Hammers recorded a crucial win over Southampton at the London Stadium – and Manchester United star Harry Maguire has heaped praise on his former Hull teammate.
Bowen, 23, was handed his first West Ham start on Saturday, in what was his third appearance for David Moyes’s side since joining the club from Hull City in the January window – for a fee believed to be in the region of £20million.
Despite comments from Moyes in the lead up to the match, urging fans not to expect the world from the goalscoring forward – he immediately set the London Stadium alight. An impeccable first touch allowed him to open the scoring.
Bowen’s neat, left-footed chip was the start of a 3-1 win for the Hammers, who climbed out of the drop zone but only on goal difference. Bowen posted on Instagram after the match, underlining his delight at scoring in claret and blue.
Manchester United’s £80million (BBC) defender Maguire played for Hull for three years between 2014 and 2017, alongside Bowen. The new Hammers attacker made seven Premier League appearances in Maguire’s last campaign.
Former Leicester City defender Maguire responded to Bowen’s Instagram, congratulating his old teammate on his first Hammers goal. West Ham teammate Declan Rice also commented.
