Manchester United: Shock move for Liverpool hero; Burnley reaction; Valencia injury details

Jose Mourinho is plotting a sensational move for Barcelona forward and Liverpool hero Luis Suarez according to Spanish source Don Balon, though any deal would most likely cost more than the £89 million signing of Paul Pogba this summer. The striker is seen as the perfect man to lead the Red Devils frontline after Zlatan Ibrahimovic appears to have hit a brick wall in the Premier League with his longest run without a goal in nine years.

The oldest member of the MSN trio, it still seems unlikely that Barcelona would allow Suarez to leave, with rumours suggesting that he is close to agreeing a new deal at the Camp Nou. That said, if United could pull off a deal for the Uruguayan, he is one of the best forwards in Europe, having won the Golden Boot for last season with 59 goals from 53 games.

That kind of goalscoring is in desperate need at Old Trafford, particularly after yesterday’s frustrating 0-0 draw with Burnley. Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands after rowing with Mark Clattenburg over the sending off of Ander Herrera and did not speak to the press after the game, but assistant manager Rui Faria said:

“For sure, Jose is happy with the players’ performance and that was a feeling from all of us. We tried, we created many chances, their goalkeeper was the best player on the pitch. Things didn’t happen. I believe better days will come. We should be worried if we don’t create any chances but in this case I believe the best results will come… So things will happen because football is this, sometimes you create one or two chances and you win, other times you create 37 shots and we couldn’t score score.”

It was a tough day for the Portuguese manager and his team, who saw 37 shots but failed to find the net with Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton in tremendous form to earn a point for his and Sean Dyche’s team.

After picking up an injury in the Manchester derby in midweek, the club announced that Antonio Valencia was unavailable for the fixture as he underwent surgery on a fractured arm, and the Manchester Evening News report that it is unclear how long he will be out of action for.

Matteo Darmian was the surprise inclusion on the bench as a result against Burnley, whilst young Timothy Fosu-Mensah may also step up to fill the void with Mourinho desperate to sell Darmian and unlikely to want to risk him picking up a long term injury.
