Manchester United round-up: Zlatan Ibrahimovic injury update; Torino’s Andrea Belotti discusses future; Luke Shaw set for lay-off

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has successfully undergone surgery on his knee injury which will see him return to action as his agent Mino Raiola confirmed that it would not put an end to his playing career. Sky Sports quote a statement from the 35-year-old’s agent in which he said:

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic has undergone successful knee surgery. He will make a full recovery and has not suffered a career-ending injury.”

The striker has been prolific and the club’s top scorer this season but his future remains unclear with no new contract in place for next season, with a number of offers from abroad as well as the option to stay in Manchester at Old Trafford.

If Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future does lie elsewhere, the club would be forced to look for a replacement. The Sun claim, though, that the club are lagging behind the likes of Chelsea in the race for in-demand Torino striker Andrea Belotti with a summer move seeming increasingly likely. The quotes from the Italian come from an interview with Sky Sports Italia, in which he said:

“The World Cup is the dream for any player, just like the Champions League. I never stopped to think about the weight of my price tag, because I always thought I should prove my worth on the pitch and those performances would ultimately set my value.”

The 23-year-old has scored 27 goals in 34 games this campaign, also earning his first cap for the Italian national team, but signed a new contract earlier this season which included an £84 million release clause to clubs from abroad with an exit from Serie A looking possible.

In yet more bad injury news for Jose Mourinho from elsewhere, left-back Luke Shaw faces a prolonged spell on the sideline as he will travel to see a specialist over a suspected injury to ligaments in his foot, say Sky Sports. It is likely to put an end to a disastrous season for the youngster.

Having overcome a serious leg break last season, Shaw has failed to convince Jose Mourinho that he deserves a regular starting place and has only made two Premier League starts since October before picking up the injury against Swansea on Sunday afternoon.
