Spanish language outlet Fox Deportes claim that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be set to leave the club at the end of the season, when his existing contract comes to an end, with a move to LA Galaxy reportedly on the cards. This would see the Swede see out the final days of his career in the MLS.
The 35-year-old has astounded many with his superb performances this season since joining on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain and Ibrahimovic has previously revealed that the club are already in talks with him over extending his contract, but that deal could now be in jeopardy.
The club’s hunt for a replacement for David de Gea is also ongoing and the Manchester Evening News say that they could look to De Gea’s former club for his substitute. Slovenian Jan Oblak has kept 15 clean sheets in 27 games so far this season and is thought to be keen on the move.
A fluent English speaker and close friends with a pair of other United targets at Atletico in the form of Antoine Griezmann and Jose Gimenez, Oblak could be convinced by the project that Jose Mourinho can offer as well. That said, the shot-stopper’s release clause is set at an eye-watering £85 million which could make any deal more of a dream than a reality.
Jose Mourinho reacted to Tuesday night’s draw with Everton by explaining that he felt that his side is lacking confidence despite going 20 games unbeaten thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s last-minute equaliser from the penalty spot. He told the club website:
“The performance was not very good but the spirit in the second half was phenomenal. And with some players really in trouble, some by the physical point of view, some others clearly with the confidence levels low and difficult to perform better. They fought until the last second and with a VAR, we win this game 2-1 because it was not an offside…”
“I have deja vu in many things but I have to admit we played better football in some other matches… Was the opponent ultra defensive as always? Yes, but we didn’t play very well. We had some players in trouble, especially by the confidence point of view. Some guys are suffering a little bit. “
Ibrahimovic also had an effort ruled out for offside, a decision which clearly frustrated Mourinho, but Ashley Williams late dismissal allowed the striker to draw the scores level with almost the final kick of the game.
