Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb claim that an announcement regarding the future of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected within the next fortnight as the 35-year-old is set to decide on where he will be plying his trade next season with a number of offers thought to be on the table.
It is expected that the talisman will extend his contract at Manchester United and remain at Old Trafford, where he will seek to continue his fine form which has seen him lead the team’s goalscoring charts this season against all expectations and doubters, who questioned whether he could perform at his age.
The same source, Tuttomercatoweb, also claim that United are one of many clubs who are monitoring the situation of Napoli striker Dries Mertens with an eye on a potential summer move for the striker who has become a key figure for the side from the south of Italy over the past few seasons.
The forward could be available, with talks over a new contract yet to produce an agreement, but it could still be an ambitious move by United, with Mertens unlikely to be their top target up front given their recent links to the likes of Antoine Griezmann of Real Madrid and others.
One man who may leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires is Michael Carrick, particularly after his latest claims. Goal and the Daily Mail quote his full interview with MOTD Magazine, in which he revealed that United would be his last club in the UK, saying:
“If and when I finish at Manchester United, that will probably be it I think. I am not getting ahead of myself, I have been here for so long and I have enjoyed it, I will not be playing for another club in England that is for sure. We will see what happens, I have not really got any plans past this, I am just enjoying how it is at the minute.”
The experienced midfielder has earned a testimonial which will be played this summer after spending a decade at Old Trafford since he was brought to the club from Tottenham by Sir Alex Ferguson. Since then, he has played an important role in holding midfield for every manager he has worked under and become a fans’ favourite.
