Squawka report that Louis Van Gaal was closely monitoring the situation of then Leicester City hero N’Golo Kante with an eye on a summer move, before he was sacked after victory in the FA Cup. The news comes as a blow for Manchester United fans, with Kante now showing his quality as a midfield general at Chelsea as they lead the title race.
The Frenchman eventually completed a move to Stamford Bridge, but the thought of having the Premier League winner in their midfield would have been a dream come true for many fans of the Red Devils.
Another potential deal could be scuppered as the Express claim that a move for defender Victor Lindelof could now cost the club £50 million after Benfica have ranked up the asking price for their Swedish centre back.
The 22-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester in January but a deal never materialised despite some reports in Portugal that a deal was all but complete. It remains to be seen if the club go back in for Lindelof in the summer, but a higher asking price could cause problems.
Another potential target could be Nottingham Forest sensation Ben Brereton, according to the Mirror. The 17-year-old scored his first goal for the first team at the weekend as Forest beat Aston Villa thanks to the striker’s last minute winner after an incredible record with the youth and reserve teams at the County Ground.
Liverpool are also said to be monitoring the youngster and reportedly had a bid worth £2.5 million rejected by the Championship club late on in the January transfer window and both clubs could now do battle in their attempts to bring him to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
