As Manchester United continue to press on with their transfer activity this summer, the Telegraph say that Tottenham’s Eric Dier remains one of the club’s top targets. Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic is another option, but the Blues may be reluctant to sell to a direct rival to steal their Premier League crown.
United have had a bid rejected for Dier already this summer but believe that an offer in the region of £50 million may be enough to give Tottenham food for thought. That would not be a problem for the Red Devils and could see the England international make the move later at some point before September.
Another key signing could be Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez as the Independent report that the Colombian is in talks with the club over a move. Jose Mourinho sees the Madrid number 10 as a long term replacement for the outgoing Wayne Rooney with his creativity and goals from midfield.
The Spanish giants are thought to be demanding €70 million for the attacking midfielder, less than they were holding out for in talks over striker Alvaro Morata. Again, that fee could be within United’s range but they may be patient in talks in order to try to drive the price down.
Patience has been important for the club in their talks with Inter Milan over the purchase of winger Ivan Perisic, and The Sun now say that defender Matteo Darmian could go the other way as part of the deal. The Italian international has been linked with a return to his home country for the past year despite earning a regular spot in Jose Mourinho’s team.
Talks over Perisic have been ongoing for several weeks now but the Croatian seems no nearer to a move to Manchester. The 29-year-old has rejected a new contract offer from the San Siro side worth £68,000 per week and he may now be forced out of the club once their asking price is met.
