Manchester United round-up: Swoop for Barcelona star; striker commits; move for Juventus midfielder

The Manchester Evening News say that Jose Mourinho is considering a move for Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba as the Spaniard has grown unhappy having been frozen out by Luis Enrique after changing the system to no longer require full-backs. With Luke Shaw looking likely to leave the club, Alba could be the perfect replacement at left-back.

Still a regular for Spain, it is thought that few in Spain would be happy to see the 28-year-old depart and with Luis Enrique set to leave the club at the end of the season, he may not be desperate to leave either.

One man who has commited to his club is United striker Anthony Martial after the Frenchman put an end to recent speculation as he told Inside United magazine, quoted by the club’s website

“For me, what’s really special here is the supporters. They’ve been really outstanding with me. I think that’s what goes a long way to making me feel at home and at ease, and makes me really keen to stay here at the club. In France, even if you’re one of the best players around, they might begin to boo and jeer you if you go a couple of games without scoring. But here it’s just the opposite, they’ll try to cheer you on so you might be able to score, and so then you grow in confidence.”

With seven goals in 29 games this season, the 21-year-old has not hit the prolific heights of last season but has still played an important role despite seemingly struggling to convince new manager Jose Mourinho that he should be a regular started for the Red Devils.

In more transfer news, TuttoMercatoWeb say that they are set to join Chelsea in the race for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio after the Italian has grown frustrated at the lack of game time he has had since returning to first team action after a prolonged spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Some in Italy have suggested that the 31-year-old is past his best but he could still be a quality addition into the side, possibly as a replacement for a player like Michael Carrick in the middle of the park.
