Manchester United round-up: Striker deal within a fortnight; competition for winger; Matic rumours latest

Manchester United are working hard to secure a deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata before they head to the United States as part of their pre-season tour, say ESPN. After leaving the signings of the likes of Paul Pogba until late in the transfer window last summer, bosses want to move early this summer to have a fully fit squad come August.

Progress is being made in talks, with the player thought to be keen to join. That means that it’s unlikely that personal terms will take long to agree. The potential arrival of Kylian Mbappe and the decision of Cristiano Ronaldo to stay in Spain could allow the Champions League winners to be more open to an agreement with the Red Devils.

However, the club’s delaying tactics are causing problems in other moves. FCInter1908.it report that Juventus are the latest club to register an interest in Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic as United remain in talks with the Serie A club over the Croatian.

Jose Mourinho and co. may be hoping that they can hold off to get a lower price or even to consider other targets. That attitude could work against them though if Juventus make an attractive offer in the meantime.

The club are also someway behind in the pursuit of other targets, as the Telegraph claim that United have rubbished rumours claiming that a fee had been agreed with Chelsea for the transfer of Serbia international Nemanja Matic.

Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the midfield dynamo, having made him a key player at Stamford Bridge, but the arrival of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko could put his position as a regular starter under threat and force him to consider a move elsewhere.
