Manchester United could face up against their city rivals Manchester City in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier as the duo hope to bring the Ivory Coast international to the city this summer, according to reports by TuttoMercatoWeb. The 24-year-old was first chance for the French club in Ligue 1 last season.
Having spent his whole career to date in France, with previous spells at RC Lens and Toulouse, Aurier’s attacking drive and strength could be tested in the Premier League as Jose Mourinho looks for a long term alternative for ageing full-back Antonio Valencia despite his superb displays last season.
It seems that he could join Anthony Martial in the Old Trafford dressing room next season as the Manchester Evening News and Goal have translated quotes from the forward’s agent Philippe Lamboley in French outlet Journal du Dimanche, in which he said:
“Martial has two years left and there is no reason for him to leave Manchester today. If Ed Woodward tells me they want him to leave, things are different. But that is not what he told me during our last meeting.”
The Frenchman made just 18 starts from a possible 38 in the Premier League last season and was rarely trusted with a starting role in big games but with a move for Antoine Griezmann now off the cards, and doubts over the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Martial could be retained.
He could be joined by a transfer target from last summer in the form of Renato Sanches. The Portuguese teenager rejected a move to the Red Devils, instead opting to join Bayern Munich, but German newspaper Bild claim that Carlo Ancelotti and co. are now prepared to allow him to leave for a fee of £30.6 million.
The 19-year-old made just nine starts in all competitions last season despite excelling at Euro 2016 after making 47 appearances for Benfica in Portugal before leaving for £30 million, though it remains to be seen if United will look to reignite their interest from the summer of 2016 in the central midfielder.
