Wayne Rooney is set for a summer exit from Old Trafford, as the Express report that the club captain is prepared to accept an offer from the Chinese Super League to cash in on his final years in the game, with offers reportedly worth up to £615,000 per week on the table.

Guangzhou Evergrande, Beijing Guoan, Jiangsu Suning, and Tianjin Quanjian all have an interest in the striker, who has one year left on his current contract at United, but Rooney is reluctant to continue to be just a bit part player under Jose Mourinho or elsewhere as the clock ticks down on his career.

Rooney did make a rare appearance for the Red Devils against Arsenal on Sunday, a defeat after which Jose Mourinho bizarrely came out and claimed the side deserved to lose despite being dominated by the Gunners as Mourinho saw his team lose in the Premier League for the first time since October. He told the club website:

“I am disappointed with the result but not the performance, at all. I liked very, very much the individual performances and I also liked them collectively. We lost because we didn’t score and we had great chances to score before them.

“They had the luck of that goal, and we didn’t score before them. Just that. Apart from that, I cannot demand more from players that didn’t play one minute of football in the last seven weeks. We didn’t deserve to lose.”

Granit Xhaka broke the deadlock after a dull first half when his 30 yard shot deflected off the back of Ander Herrera and looped over the head of David de Gea. Danny Welbeck followed it up with a second after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross found the former United striker in space in the box.

Mourinho was forced to make changes and rest several players, with young Axel Tuanzebe making his debut, and Spanish newspaper Sport believe that United want to add more depth to the squad and are monitoring Juventus full-back Dani Alves as a potential addition at right back.

The Brazilian joined the Italian club from Barcelona only a year ago but has been in sensation form, surprising many in Serie A with his quality despite having reached his 34th birthday. Now, it seems that Massimiliano Allegri could look to cash in on the defender while they still can.
