As Manchester United look to press on with their summer transfer business, the Mirror claim that Jose Mourinho is pushing the club to make a £60 million bid for Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier. Spurs are believed to be refusing to sell the England international, but Mourinho hopes that such a fee could tempt them into selling.
Dier would be a good addition for the Red Devils given his assured performances for both club and country since returning to England after a spell at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. However, having lost his first team place to Victor Wanyama last season, some may question whether such a fee is appropriate.
Another option may be Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, as the Daily Mail claim that United are prepared to outbid Chelsea in their pursuit of the 22-year-old. Bakayoko was thought to be close to a move to the Premier League champions but United could now humiliate Antonio Conte’s side for the second time in this transfer window.
However, Sky Sports claim that the midfielder is set for a medical at Chelsea this week, with the deal only having been held up by surgery on a knee injury preventing him from taking a medical with the London based club. With these reports indicating that a deal could be done by the end of the week, only time will tell where Bakayoko will end up.

One club who were lucky not to face competition from Old Trafford were Arsenal in their signing of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette. The Guardian say that United did track the French striker, given that he was Ligue 1’s top scorer last season, but Mourinho ruled out a move.
The Portuguese manager reportedly believed that he lacked fitness and would be unable to influence big games, questioning his ability to adapt to life in the Premier League. The Gunners may be hoping that Mourinho is proved wrong in the 2017/18 season, and beyond.
