Manchester United round-up: Monaco's Tiemoue Bakayoko could choose United over Chelsea; Matteo Darmian deal agreed with Inter; Celtic's Kieran Tierney scouted
The Manchester Evening News claim that reports suggesting that Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has agreed a £35 million switch to Chelsea are wide of the mark, as they say that he is still open to a move to Old Trafford, although only on the condition that the club make the Champions League.
The dynamic midfielder made his debut for the French national team against Spain on Tuesday night and looks set to depart Monaco in the summer in search of a move to a top club with many of Europe’s biggest outfits monitoring and chasing his services with an eye on a bid in the coming months.
Such a move could in part be funded by the sale of full-back Matteo Darmian, as Italian newspaper Tuttosport report that the Italian is a top target for Inter Milan as they look to strengthen their defence with the aim of challenging the likes of Juventus and Napoli at the top of Serie A next season.
Having come through the ranks at the San Siro with AC Milan before departing for Palermo and then Torino, the 27-year-old has struggled to get regular game time under Jose Mourinho in Manchester this season and could feasibly be up for sale in the summer if an acceptable bid is incoming.
A potential replacement could be 19-year-old Kieran Tierney as the Daily Mail say that the Celtic youngster has emerged as a possible replacement for Darmian and Luke Shaw in the left-back position. With 12 assists in 31 games in his second season as a first team regular, he could well be an exciting option.
With three caps to his name for the Scottish national side, Brendan Rodgers will not want to allow his man to leave Celtic Park without a fight but the lure of the Theatre of Dreams may be too much for Tierney.
