Manchester United Round-Up: Martial doubts; Carrick future discussed; Mourinho reflects on Leicester win

The Mirror believe that Anthony Martial is feeling increasingly marginalised by manager Jose Mourinho and thinks that he may be forced out of the club by the new manager only two years after joining the club from Monaco. The 21-year-old feels that he has become a scapegoat for the side’s poor form earlier on this season.

Having completed 90 minutes just once in the Premier League this season, it is understandable to see why the French international may feel that way, but it could end up forcing him out of the club.

With another player much nearer an exit, Michael Carrick, Jose Mourinho has hinted that the 35-year-old may not have a future at Old Trafford for much longer as he told the press:

“Let’s be honest. I have seen many positives in Carrick. But I cannot go to his identity card and delete five years. Michael is not 30.”

The former Tottenham and West Ham midfielder has become a key figure for United over the past few years and has shown his importance once again this season with 19 appearances, but his future may lie elsewhere.

After a very impressive display against reigning Premier League champions Leicester City, manager Jose Mourinho clearly felt that his side were not greatly challenged as he told the press:

“I think we played like we normally play. We played well, we tried to win. Obviously the opponent is difficult but that’s something we are used to. We didn’t have the best start – in the first 15 or 20 minutes. But then we started to have control, we moved the ball around, we created chances, we scored goals. That’s the only difference – that we arrived at half-time with a 2-0 result. Then we controlled the game and it was quite easy.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic notched his 20th goal of the season alongside goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan to open the Red Devils’ accounts and Juan Mata in the second half.
