The Sun claim that Jose Mourinho is set for a new five-year contract as the club look for commitment with the Portuguese manager set to get assurances ahead of a £1 billion transformation of the squad over the aforementioned period. His current deal has two years left to run, with an option for another year, and he is in line for a pay rise to £230,000 per week.
Negotiations over the deal are almost complete, with Mourinho also having received support in his pursuit of Antoine Griezmann and Victor Lindelof in the summer as he seeks to bring the squad up to scratch regardless of whether or not the club qualify for Champions League football next season.
Another star who could be brought in is Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos, as the Independent suggest that the Red Devils are set to renew their interest in the German. The 27-year-old has become a key figure for Real Madrid since he opted to join them over a move to Manchester when he left Bayern Munich.
The number eight has settled in well in Madrid and is first choice under Zinedine Zidane, but United could be hoping to make an ambitious move to bring him to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho is already busy enough dealing with matters that will be decided much sooner than that as he made it clear that he had plenty on his mind ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final in March as he told Sky Sports after they were drawn against Chelsea:
“Probably Chelsea can only think about that (the FA Cup) because I think they are champions and they have nothing else to fight for. The FA Cup is something I believe is important for them. I have to play St-Etienne (on Wednesday), I have to play the (League Cup) final, I have to play hopefully another opponent in the Europa League. I have to fight for a top four position in the Premier League. I have so many things to think about.”
The two sides met at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League but suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat on Mourinho’s first return to his former club.
