Manchester United have confirmed that they have come to an agreement with Everton over a transfer fee for striker Romelu Lukaku. Another announcement is expected in the coming days, once personal terms have been agreed and the Belgian international has passed a medical to join the Old Trafford club.
Lukaku has been one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League since joining the Toffees from Chelsea in 2013, initially on a season long loan deal. Now, the Red Devils seem to have beaten Chelsea to the signature of their former player and could wrap a deal up within the next week.
Whilst supposedly unrelated, club captain Wayne Rooney is close to securing a move the other way, so say the Mirror. The experienced 31-year-old is likely to return to his former club Everton in the next few days after accepting a substantial pay cut and being warned by manager Ronald Koeman about the club’s strict disciplinary policy.
Rooney moved to Manchester United from Goodison Park in 2004 and has since become a legend at Old Trafford, breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s record as the club’s all time top goalscorer. Now, he will return to the club where he came through the youth ranks and is likely to see out his career there.

In other transfer news, Jose Mourinho has instructed the club to wait until January in their pursuit of Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo, according to Correio da Manha. The Portuguese newspaper believe that Benfica want £44 million (£50 million euros) for the Portugal international, who has four years left on his contract.
The asking price is lower than his £53 million (60 million euros) release clause but is still a substantial fee for the 23-year-old, who has also been linked with Barcelona. With Antonio Valencia already a capable option on the right of defence, this addition is not an urgent one for the club.
