Sky Sports claim that Manchester United are targeting Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as a potential replacement for David de Gea if the Spaniard leaves the club in the summer. The 30-year-old is also attracting interest from Manchester City, but his new agent could use his relationship with United to push him towards Old Trafford.
The son of former goalkeeper Peter, Kasper is thought to be the club’s top target in the summer if De Gea does move on having won the Premier League last season with the Foxes and then used this season to show his abilities in the Champions League at the highest possible level.
An alternative could be City goalkeeper Joe Hart, but the Mirror say that Pep Guardiola and co. will only part with the England number one if the Red Devils meet their asking price worth a whopping £30 million. Such a fee would be affordable, but may not help Hart to be the first choice target.
Currently on loan at Torino in Serie A, Hart has plenty of Premier League experience and is expected to return with his Turin club unable to afford to pay his wages if he were to make the switch permanent, let alone the transfer fee which the Citizens are demanding for their goalkeeper.
Another transfer target is thought to be Fulham’s teenage sensation Ryan Sessegnon. The Mirror believe that United have joined Liverpool, Arsenal and their city rivals in targeting the 16-year-old left-back, with scouts confident that he can play further forward in a way similar to a young Gareth Bale.
Fulham have previously stated that they do not want to sell their youth product this season after he rapidly became first choice for the Craven Cottage outfit in the Championship, but United could test that resolve if they are able to leapfrog their competitors in the race for his services.
