After 17 years at the club, Jesse Lingard has put pen to paper on a new contract which will see him remain in the red half of Manchester for a further four years, say Sky Sports. The winger is believed to have trebled his wages to an impressive £100,000 per week.

The England international previously had one year left on his existing deal but has now committed his future to the club after speculation that other top Premier League clubs were monitoring his contract negotiations.

The Sun claim that one of the club’s top transfer targets could turn down the opportunity to move to Old Trafford in the summer as Antoine Griezmann is determined to be playing Champions League football next season and could reject an offer from United if they do not qualify.

Currently, qualification is still possible on two fronts in both the Premier League and Europa League, but Jose Mourinho will need to ensure that his side produce their best displays in the final weeks of the season in order to do enough to ensure their participation in the top European competition.

He could team up with his France national team team-mate Paul Pogba, who United legend Bryan Robson has tipped to be a potential club captain. With Wayne Rooney expected to leave in the summer, a new captain will soon be appointed. Robson told SportWitness:

“(Jose) Mourinho will make that decision regarding who’s captain, but once Paul Pogba is settled into the club again, gets used to the Premier League again, as long as he keeps improving, I think he’s captain material. I think Paul works really hard at his game.”

“I think he wants to be one of best, if not the best midfielder in the world, so he’ll keep working at it, keep improving and become a real bright player for Manchester United.”

The midfielder is set to be available from the start when the Red Devils meet with Sunderland this weekend after making a return to action against Everton to end a spell on the sidelines.
