The Manchester Evening News have sensationally claimed that Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak could be on his way to Old Trafford after his agent spent time in the UK to begin talks over a possible summer switch to see him replace David de Gea in goal for Jose Mourinho if De Gea moves to Real Madrid.
De Gea has reportedly put his house up for sale and Oblak would be a quality replacement, given that he has kept 62 clean sheets in 107 first team appearances for Atletico since joining from Benfica. Close friends with Antoine Griezmann and fluent in English, the only stumbling block could be his £85 million release clause.
He could be joined in making the journey from Spain to Manchester by Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler, according to the Daily Star. They claim that Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has alerted him to the 20-year-old’s availability. Soler, who has one year left on his existing contract, has a release clause of £25 million.
The central midfielder, who can also play in a more advanced role, has made his breakthrough into the first team this season with three goals in 18 games to date. Sharing an agent with Eric Bailly may aid negotiations if United do make a bid for what is one of Spain’s brightest young talents.
At the other end of his career, the Independent claim that Mourinho has held tentative talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a potential future role at Old Trafford. The manager wants him to stay on at the club in a coaching capacity once his playing days come to an end, seemingly in the near future given his knee injury.
Ibrahimovic is yet to agree a new deal with United for next season and whilst the club have promised to pay for his medical costs for the injury, it remains unclear whether he has made his last appearance in a Manchester United shirt.
