Manchester United round-up: Ivan Perisic deal stalls; interest in Tottenham’s Danny Rose; Juan Mata explains league woes

The Independent have dealt a blow to United’s transfer hopes as they revealed that talks over an agreement with Inter Milan for winger Ivan Perisic could be in danger with a £15 million difference in valuation of the players, with United wanting to pay £35 million, compared to the £50 million wanted by the San Siro club.

The Croatian has also been linked with Chelsea and could be on his way to Old Trafford in the next few weeks, but the Red Devils will have to overcome the difference in valuations if they are to secure a transfer for the 28-year-old who has been in Italy for the past two seasons.

In another potential deal, Tottenham are believed to be readying themselves for interest in left-back Danny Rose, with Manchester United leading the race for the England international as a potential replacement for Luke Shaw, say the Mirror. Shaw has made just one Premier League start in the last seven months and left-back could be a top priority for Jose Mourinho this summer.

Rose would be the perfect candidate given his home grown status and his reputation as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, but it could be difficult to persuade Tottenham to strike a deal with potential title rivals.

Meanwhile, Juan Mata believes that United will be contenders alongside Spurs at the top of the league next season as he believes that a lack of consistency cost them this season, as he revealed in his blog:

“When I look back, I can see many good moments that we have lived together. We won the Community Shield right after the pre-season, we lifted the EFL Cup trophy in London, in a very special game for me, and of course the final in Sweden. But we are aware of our lack of consistency and effectiveness in the Premier League that prevented us from fighting for the title, which is what Manchester United is supposed to do.”

The Spaniard returned from injury to feature in the Europa League final and has enjoyed a fine season after many cast doubt over his future under Jose Mourinho last summer.
