Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future could lie away from Old Trafford as BBC Sport report that they believe that LA Galaxy would be prepared to make an offer which would make the 35-year-old by far the best-paid player in Major League Soccer for the upcoming season, following in the footsteps of another former United hero in the form of David Beckham.

It is not yet clear how the Swede would react to any such offer, but the American side are just the latest potential suitors to have been linked with making an offer for the United striker who has surprised many with his superb form this season despite his age.

However, he could not do enough to earn his team a win in Russia last night as the side could only muster a 1-1 draw in Europa League action. Jose Mourinho told the club website:

“It was a very good performance in relation to the conditions. It was impossible to play better, impossible to play a passing game. We played what the game demanded and we played well. We made one defensive mistake. We have an open result for the second leg with a little advantage for us. There are no injuries. I think we had a positive result. We know we need to win or to have a 0-0 draw so the game is open, the tie is open. But, in these circumstances, I think it was a good result.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s goal gave the Red Devil’s a crucial away goal in what could be a much easier fixture in Manchester given the appalling condition of the pitch in Rostov.

A Europa League win may be the club’s best chance of securing Champions League football next season, which would certainly help their pursuit of Napoli forward Dries Mertens, say Il Mattino. They claim that the Belgian is not satisfied with the latest offer he has been given by the Italian club and has held secret talks with representatives from United.

The 29-year-old has scored 23 goals in just 34 games so far this season in some of the best form of his life, and Napoli may be forced to sell with only two years left on his contract in the summer.
