The Daily Mail claim that sources close to the club have denied speculation suggesting that Manchester United have come to an agreement with Antoine Griezmann which could see him leave Atletico Madrid to swap the Spanish capital for Manchester in the summer if the club could agree a fee with his current side.

It seems that there is an interest from United but such claims may be premature with the summer window still months away from even opening.

Michael Carrick is reportedly set to be offered a new contract at the club to keep him at the club until the summer of 2018, but only if he cuts his wages almost in half from £130,000 to £70,000, claim the Sun. United made similar moves with the likes of Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand towards the end of their careers, and Carrick is now one of the oldest players in the squad at the age of 35.

With 19 appearances to his name this season, Jose Mourinho has clearly found the former West Ham and Tottenham midfielder’s experience to be vital as he helped Ander Herrera to find form earlier in the campaign.

Patrice Evra has revealed that he came close to a return to Old Trafford, only for the move to be blocked by an unnamed person. Evra was quoted by Goal and the Independent as having told Sky Italia:

I was very close to a return to Manchester United. I also spoke with Mourinho but there was a person, whose name I will not say, who probably did not like the idea of my return. Even the fans were enthusiastic and would have been delighted, but because I realised that they [the club] would not do anything I then asked my agent to look for other teams.

The left-back, who spent eight years in Manchester between 2006 and 2014, recently left Juventus and joined Marseille in Ligue Une.
