Manchester United have confirmed in a statement on the club website that they have reached an agreement with Benfica to sign defender Victor Lindelof. The 22-year-old will now undergo a medical and seek to agree personal terms before a deal can be completed.

A tough tackling central defender, who has filled in on the right of defence on rare occasions, Lindelof will be the club’s first summer signing. The Swede is likely to fight for a first team place alongside the likes of Eric Bailly after impressing Jose Mourinho with his displays in Liga NOS and the Champions League.

He could soon be followed by another signing as the Independent claim that Italian centre forward Andrea Belotti could put pen to paper on a £70 million move in the next few weeks. They say that the Torino striker will form part of a new look attacking set up alongside Real Madrid goal getter Alvaro Morata.

Belotti scored 28 goals in 38 games this season and will look to replicate that form at Old Trafford if the 23-year-old does make the move. With the likes of Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba providing him with service, he should be confident of doing so.

In less positive news, the Mirror report that goalkeeper David de Gea is refusing to enter into talks over a new contract until he is convinced that there is no interest in his services from Real Madrid. Reports appeared to indicate that the Spanish side are no longer chasing the former Atletico Madrid man.

The Spanish number one has just two years left on his existing deal and could look to hold out on signing an extension to ensure that he gets his dream move in two years time.
