The Independent have reported that Jose Mourinho’s transfer frustrations are beginning to boil over as the Red Devils are struggling to complete a deal for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
The Spanish striker is a top target for United after they released Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann decided to stay in Spain.
Yet, as Ed Woodward continues to work towards a deal with Real Madrid, the major stumbling block is the price.
Madrid value their man at £72 million and United are finding it hard to negotiate a lower price because the Spanish club acknowledge that the Manchester club can more than afford to pay their asking price.
Having scored 14 goals in 15 appearances last season, it is clear that Morata would do the job he is going to be bought in for – score goals. However, it remains to be seen whether United will part with such a large sum of money.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, the striker still expects to sign for the Red Devils this summer.
Another signing United are struggling to complete is the deal to bring Ivan Perisic to the club. The Inter Milan star is valued at £48 million by his club, but the Red Devils are unwilling to match that valuation.
However, Mourinho’s side are readying a bid for the Croatia international, one that they feel will be enough to persuade the Italian club to part with their man, according to Sky Italia.
The outlet have suggested that Inter Milan are willing to sell Perisic as the San Siro side look to the future under former Roma manager Luciano Spalletti.
Further transfer frustrations for United are coming from their close rivals Chelsea.
The Blues, who are readying their side for a title defence, are holding on to Nemanja Matic until the deal for Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko is confirmed, according to journalist James Cooper, as referenced in the Daily Star and the Express.
Cooper suggested that Mourinho is being frustrated this summer, having only brought in Victor Lindelof from Benfica, as the Portuguese boss is waiting for other clubs to complete their transfer business before he can finalise certain deals.
The journalist said: “”Jose Mourinho would dearly love to have players in for that but I think the problem with some of the deals he’s trying to do with some of the clubs, is they’re waiting for other players to come into those clubs.
He added: “I think Chelsea are looking at Bakayoko for example, that would perhaps unlock the door for Matic to come to Manchester United.”
