BBC Sport have reported that Michael Keane has joined Everton, with the signing set to be confirmed on Monday. The Englishman, who joined Burnley from Manchester United, was linked with a return to the Red Devils by The Sun, but Jose Mourinho’s side will now miss out on the 24-year-old.
Keane is set to cost Everton £25 million, which is the same price United were expected to pay. Yet, the Red Devils decided to sign Victor Lindelof from Benfica and, with Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcus Rojo, Eric Bailly and Daley Blind readily available to play at centre-back, United have passed up the opportunity of re-signing the Englishman, who joined Burnley for free in 2015.
Despite adding Victor Lindelof, Jose Mourinho is reportedly unhappy with the lack of transfer activity happening at Old Trafford this summer.
The Swedish defender remains the only player to join so far, and with United’s pre-season tour looming, Ed Woodward is running out of time to meet Mourinho’s demands.
The Guardian reported that the Portuguese manager wanted three or four players to join before United head to the USA. After the Europa League final victory against Ajax, he said: “Ed Woodward has my analysis, has what I want, what I would like for more than two months. Now it’s for him, now for the owners and the people who work with him [to sort], so I just wait.”

It seems, however, that the vice-chairman is running out of time to meet Mourinho’s demands and Woodward’s appearances at the British and Irish Lions first test against the All Blacks in New Zealand has surprised United’s staff. With only one signing this summer, relations between the Red Devils’ manager and vice-chairman could become strained.
One deal that Woodward will have to wait on, however, is the signing of Barcelona star Neymar. Despite being linked by Don Balon, the Brazilian is set to stay at the Catalan club this season, before potentially joining United next summer, dependent on Barcelona’s progress.
Neymar is reportedly unhappy playing in Lionel Messi’s shadow and he is unsure of how the Spanish club will develop under their new manager, Ernesto Valverde.
This has opened up the possibility of a move to Manchester United, who are willing to meet the £174 million release clause that is in the Brazilian’s contract.
