Manchester United round-up: Enquiry made for David De Gea; Jose Mourinho slams Luke Shaw; squad react to criticism

Guillem Balague has written for Sky Sports to claim that Real Madrid have made an enquiry regarding the price that Manchester United would demand in order to sell goalkeeper David De Gea as they attempt to secure a move for the Spaniard back to his home country.

The stopper has been in his typical reliable good form so far this season, with most of United’s problems coming at the other end of the field, and Balague states that he does not believe that Florentino Perez, Zinedine Zidane and co. will be successful in their pursuit, with United hugely reluctant to sell.

One man who seems increasingly likely to be on the move in the summer is defender Luke Shaw, after manager Jose Mourinho hit out at the left-back’s conduct when asked where he was at in terms of competing with the likes of Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and other options. BBC Sport quote him as saying:

“I cannot compare the way he trains and commits, the focus, the ambition. He is a long way behind.”

The England international has made just one Premier League appearance for the first team since October and has been almost completely frozen out of the picture since then, with the £30 million signing failing to live up to the price tag that Louis Van Gaal paid for him nearly two years ago.

The Mirror claim that the squad have reacted to Mourinho’s outburst and are not against their boss, with many feeling that Shaw does not help himself with his attitude. They claim that the left-back has been spoken to by several senior players at the club in an attempt to help him win Mourinho round.

However, that clearly has not worked as of yet and the relationship between Mourinho and Shaw remains a difficult one, which reportedly has been far from rosy ever since the Portuguese coach met with the teenager in an attempt to bring him to Stamford Bridge three years ago.
