Manchester United appear to be close to announcing their second summer signing with a £40 million deal for Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, according to The Guardian. The Serbian could be reunited with his former manager Jose Mourinho and reinforce the Red Devils’ midfield ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.
Matic has immense experience at the very highest level, having won the Premier League in two of the past three seasons. That will be welcomed at Old Trafford as Mourinho prepares to bring in a player he knows well from their time together at Stamford Bridge.
Another player Mourinho has previously worked with could also be announced in the next few days, as Marca claim that an announcement is imminent to confirm the signing of Alvaro Morata. The Spanish international is set to leave Real Madrid, only a year after returning from Juventus, and will lead a new look attack for the Red Devils.

Morata impressed many with his fine form in La Liga but never established himself as first choice, with Karim Benzema the preferred choice as a central striker under Zinedine Zidane. Now it looks likely that he will re-join the manager who gave him his first team debut in Mourinho.
However, it seems unlikely that he will be joined by Harry Kane. The Independent say that Tottenham have no plans at all to sell their star man and would not be tempted by any figure below at least £200 million, more than double the current world record fee.

Whilst United do possess huge financial strength, £200 million would surely be too much even for the Premier League giants as Jose Mourinho also looks to strengthen his squad elsewhere. Kane was always an ambitious target, but it seems that not even the charm of Mourinho and United could be enough in this case.
