Real Madrid have reportedly told David de Gea that he has until May to decide on whether he wishes to return to Spain or not, according to the Mirror. The Spanish national team’s number one has long been linked with the club, who are looking to replace Keylor Navas after the Costa Rican has made a number of costly errors this season.
However, De Gea is in no rush to leave Manchester and is enjoying life under Jose Mourinho. That said, the 26-year-old may be reluctant to spend the peak years of his career without Champions League football if the club is unable to secure that level of competition this season.
There is more immediate concerning news for Jose Mourinho though, as the Manchester Evening News believe that Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney have all remained in Manchester and not traveled to London for Monday’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea due to injury and illness.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic beginning his three match suspension for a violent conduct charge, it leaves the boss with few options up-front, with an improvised attack looking likely. It may give way to the likes of Juan Mata playing in a more attacking role, but few will be able to predict how Mourinho will deal with the situation.
The club could miss out on another striker too, as the Sun say that Liverpool are leading the race to secure the services of Nottingham Forest’s prolific 17-year-old Ben Brereton. The forward has scored three and made two assists in just eight appearances in the Championship after incredible form in the youth ranks.
Valued by his club at £10 million, it is thought that a move to Merseyside is the most likely possibility for the Englishman. Nonetheless, United still retain some hope of bringing the hot prospect to Old Trafford, according to the Express, who have added fuel to the fire by suggesting the Manchester outfit’s residing interest in the youngster.
