Despite pressure from Barcelona, the Independent claim that Manchester United will do all they can to hold on to their star midfielder Ander Herrera. Barcelona are believed to have made the Spanish international their second choice midfield target behind PSG maestro Marco Verratti, but the Red Devils have no intention of allowing their man to leave the club.

Herrera was one of the club’s most consistent and stand out performers in 2016/17, with his dictating of play and tough tackling style crucial to United’s treble success. With heavy investment into the squad, retaining Herrera could still be one of the best bits of business the club do this summer.

He could be joined in midfield by one of his compatriots if Goal are to be believed, as they claim that Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez could be a target. The Spain under 21 international has been in sensational form for his country at the European under 21 Championships.

Saul has also hinted that he could be tempted by a lucrative contract offer, despite claiming that he is happy in the Spanish capital. With an €80 million release clause, he could soon become a target for Jose Mourinho given his versatility and huge potential.

In less positive news, the Telegraph say that United face rejection in their attempts to bring in winger Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan this summer. The club made a series of low bids as they were fully aware that Inter need to sell to avoid a fine from UEFA at the end of June, but no deal has been agreed and the Croatian could be off the market once that deadline has passed.

The San Siro club valued Perisic at £44 million but United refused to match that price, making an opening offer of £28 million. Now, they look set to pay the price with a potential move destined to fail.
