Diego Simeone has revealed that Antoine Griezmann could leave Atletico Madrid at any moment in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, as reported by Goal and ESPN, after the Argentinean manager said:

“Yes, because there is a termination clause. There is no security. That’s what he told me – if you stay, I’ll stay. And I said yes, why would I not stay? And they began to work with the representatives for everything that had to be signed. And he stayed. And from now on I do not know what can happen. He would never let me tell him to stay. I did not do it with [Diego] Costa or [Radamel] Falcao. To the players who have given me life I accompany them in the decisions that they make. But it is clear that for as long as he stays, the team and the club will continue to grow.”

The French forward has been linked with a move to Manchester United over the past few months and could be one of Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward’s top targets in the summer as it becomes increasingly clear that a move could be possible.

He could be jioned in moving to England by his team-mate Jose Gimenez, as AS claim that the Uruguayan centre-back is growing frustrated with his lack of game time in Madrid and may demand a move with Liverpool and United both thought to be tracking him.

The 22-year-old, who can also fill in a holding midfield position if needed, has played just 19 times this season in a frustrating season having made 37 appearances last season. Despite his youth, Gimenez has bags of experience with 30 international caps already, and few doubt his quality.

He could provide competition for Phil Jones, who is now set to miss nine games in a massive injury blow, say the Mirror. They report that the central defender has suffered a potential broken foot whilst on England duty after being on the receiving end of a tough challenge by Chris Smalling.

It comes as bad news for Jose Mourinho after Jones had settled in well as part of a back three system alongside Smalling and Eric Bailly.
