Manchester United round-up: £79 million asking price for Alvaro Morata; Victor Lindelof joins; Arsenal want Chris Smalling

Spanish newspaper Marca report that Real Madrid are prepared to allow striker Alvaro Morata to leave the club, but only if Manchester United meet their asking price. That is believed to have been set at €90 million (£79 million). Such a substantial asking price could slow down a potential deal, though given United’s financial clout it is unlikely to jeopardise the move.

The Spanish international is understood to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, where he would be likely to lead a new look attack under Jose Mourinho. Morata has previously worked with Mourinho and it was the Portuguese coach who gave the forward his first team debut at the Bernabeu.

However, the Red Devils have completed another deal even sooner, with the club’s official website confirming Victor Lindelof’s move to Old Trafford is finalised, after he successfully passed a medical. The Swede had recently left his national team after their end of season fixtures and the announcement has been anticipated throughout the day.

The 22-year-old has been a long term target for the Red Devils, having been linked with a move to the club in January. He will lead a revamp of the defence for his new side and will likely become first choice alongside Eric Bailly at the heart of Mourinho’s defence.

That is likely to force Chris Smalling out of the side. The Sun go as far as to say that Smalling will be forced to leave the club and claim that Arsene Wenger is monitoring the situation as the England international could become a target for the Gunners as they look to re-gain a Champions League place.

Smalling became a fixture in the side early on in the Mourinho reign, but has seen himself fall out of favour in the second half of the season. Arsenal would likely be an attractive option for the former Fulham man if he is to leave and would offer the option to compete in Europe and return to London.
