Manchester United round-up: PSG want midfielder swap deal; Spaniard to stay; £40million Dier bid

In what would be a sensational bid, the Mirror suggest that Paris Saint-Germain are considering allowing Marco Verratti to leave Paris if they can get their hands on United forward Anthony Martial in a swap deal. The move would give both sides key targets in this transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks for added strength in the middle of the park.

Any such deal does seem unlikely, though. Despite Martial becoming a marginalised figure at Old Trafford, the indications so far this transfer window have been that he will not be looking for a move away from Manchester. Whilst it may be a surprising suggestion, it seems likely to make it to reality any time soon.

However, the same could have been said of the fact that Manchester United would allow first choice goalkeeper David de Gea to leave the club. That is exactly what Jose Mourinho claims was a possibility, as he insisted that De Gea will now remain at the club after Real Madrid failed to make a move for him. The Independent quote him as saying:

“I can guarantee that he’s not going this season – that I can. He was contacted for a long time, the club was closed, then we open because I always have this feeling of when a player has a desire to go I don’t like to stop players to go because in the end you don’t get from them what you expect from them if they want to move and they don’t move. So we open it and then they decide to close, and I don’t think the feeling for him is very good.”

United face Mourinho’s former club in a pre-season friendly in the United States on Sunday night and having been sharing a training base in Los Angeles whilst they have been on tour as part of their pre-season schedule.

The club have also reportedly made a bid worth £40 million for Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier, according to Sky Sports reporter Jim White, on Twitter. Mourinho is thought to be a fan of the England international and could see him as a long term successor to captain Michael Carrick in that role.

It does seem unlikely that Tottenham would be willing to part with one of their key players, especially a young star like Dier who is capable of playing in several positions for Mauricio Pochettino. At £40 million, their resolve may be tested.
