Manchester United could make a surprise late move for Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley, according to the Mirror. The 23-year-old has entered into the final year of his contract at Goodison Park and could be sold by Ronald Koeman, with Tottenham also strongly interested.
However, it seems that the asking price of £50 million and his reported wage demands being high could prevent United from pushing through a deal. It is unlikely that Barkley is the club’s first choice, but he may be one option for the club to consider in what remains of the transfer window.
Another option being monitored is Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier. The Independent say that the Red Devils may make a £25 million move for the 24-year-old as he seeks an exit from Paris this summer with Unai Emery having told him he is free to leave the Ligue Un club.
If he were to head to Manchester he could compete with the likes of Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian for the right sided full-back position. It does seem strange given that it is not an area where additions are desperately needed, but the Ivory Coast international would bring quality to the club.
That could also spur on the departure of Ashley Young, who has been used as a makeshift right back or right wing back at times under Jose Mourinho. The Sun say that Stoke City have made an approach to Young over a summer switch. Managed by Mark Hughes, a former Old Trafford hero, Young is unlikely to remain a United player beyond this summer.
Having joined the club in 2011 from Aston Villa in a £17 million move, Young could put an end to a six year spell at the club. He was looking likely to leave in January with a huge offer from China on the table, but Jose Mourinho prevented him from leaving as he was needed for the run in with the Europa League still a distraction. That now looks like the right call but the 32-year-old could still leave in the current transfer window.
