Manchester United round-up: Perisic set to sign deal; Ibrahimovic close to return; Martial going nowhere

In a major blow to Manchester United’s transfer hopes, Sky Sports believe that Inter Milan winger is close to putting pen to paper on a new deal to keep him at the San Siro. Perisic has been linked with United throughout the summer but talks have not seen a deal come to fruition even with two weeks left of the transfer window.

Inter Milan wanted at least £48 million in order to part with the Croatian and rejected a number of offers from Manchester. Now, it appears that Jose Mourinho and co. will be forced to look elsewhere if they are to bolster their attack with a new winger this summer with not long left to act.

One singing where time is not such an important factor is in the contract renewal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Currently a free agent after his United deal expired in the summer, the Independent say that talks over a new deal could see the Swede take up a coaching role upon his return to the club.

Fighting to overcome a serious knee injury, Mourinho reportedly sees him as a key link between the players and management. The Portuguese boss believes that his experience could also help to allow younger players to step up their game and deal with the pressure of being at a club as big as Manchester United.

One such player could be Anthony Martial. Perhaps also boosted by the failure to sign Ivan Perisic, the Frenchman’s cousin Jema took to Twitter to deny speculation that he could leave. He has since deleted the tweet but the Manchester Evening News claim that screenshots show that he said:

“For Manchester United, Anthony’s departure is not a possibility, even on loan. They rely on him.”

Given the favourable reception for the former Monaco man at Old Trafford on Sunday, that will come as good news for United fans. They were proven to be right by putting their faith in the left sided forward as he came on as a substitute to score against West Ham.
