Jose Mourinho is continuing to turn up the heat on Ed Woodward and his colleagues as the Express say that he has requested that the club pursue a potential deal for Monaco defender Fabinho. The Brazilian spent a loan spell at Real Madrid whilst Mourinho was in charge there and was given his debut for the club by the Portuguese boss.
Now an established right-back, who can also feature in a holding midfield role, he has become a key figure at Monaco. The Ligue Un club have so far been reluctant to sell, but Mourinho clearly feels that the Red Devils may have what it takes to prise him away from the Principality club.
Another option at right-back may be Barcelona man Sergi Roberto. Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim that United have had a €40 million (£36.2 million) bid rejected for the La Masia product with Barcelona refusing to sell the versatile Spaniard, who can also play in midfield.
Roberto is believed to be unmoved by the attention from both United and Premier League rivals Chelsea and is keen to stay on at the Camp Nou this season and beyond. As such, it may be a difficult move for United to complete but they may still try to complete a deal for him.
A deal which is close to completion is a loan exit for another versatile defender, Timothy Fosu-Mensah. The Telegraph say that the youngster is set to head to Crystal Palace on loan for the length of the 2017/18 season in order to get regular first team football in the Premier League.
The Dutchman has been little more than a fringe player at Old Trafford and will be keen to get minutes under his belt in order to fuel his development. That seems more likely under Frank de Boer at Selhurst Park, with a deal likely to be confirmed in the coming days.
