Manchester United may have impressed in victory over their city rivals Manchester City in Houston on Thursday night, but Jose Mourinho clearly wants more. The manager demanded more transfer action post-match as, speaking after his side’s 2-0 victory, he told the club website:
“The credit of Lukaku and Lindelof to be here on time, the credit is not mine, it is Ed Woodward and his team. I thank him for that fantastic work to bring us two very important players for us. But we need a bit more when you see the other teams in the Premier League, like Man City, Liverpool and West Ham, the way they get players, good players, important players. The teams are fantastic in the market. I am waiting for a bit more.”
So far this summer, defender Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku have both joined the club. Elsewhere the Express are just one of many sources that Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic could be the next player to join the club.
A different potential addition could be Bayern Munich’s teen sensation Renato Sanches, according to The Sun. They say that after a disappointing first year in Germany, having rejected United last summer, he could join the Red Devils on a one-year loan deal.
The 19-year-old won the young player of the tournament award at the European Championships last season as Portugal emerged as surprise victors. His stock is still high despite struggling in Bundesliga, and he could be a useful addition if a deal can be struck.
He could join a squad led by newly appointed captain Michael Carrick. The experienced midfielder has declared that the club will only aim for the very best this season. The Daily Mail quote him as telling the media:
“I can’t get my head around that, to say top-four is acceptable. You can’t expect to win the league every year. But you’ve got to set out to do that. We can’t be sat here saying finishing in the top four is a step up from last season… It’s pretty much win the league or nothing for me.”
Such an attitude reflects a return to the values of Sir Alex Ferguson during his spell at the club and fans will hope that similar success will follow.
