Manchester United round-up: Winger could make sensational move; Perisic focused switched; Ibrahimovic return likely

As Real Madrid near a world record breaking £160 million move for Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe, it could also mean that Manchester United could profit. The Red Devils may launch a bid for winger Gareth Bale, say the Independent, as Mbappe is likely to force him out of the side at the Bernabeu.

Bale had an injury hit season in 2016/17 in Spain and frustrations have grown over the lack of fitness and form from the Welshman. Mbappe is unlikely to move to sit on the bench and that could spell the end of the BBC (Bale, Benzema, Cristiano [Ronaldo]) trio, with Jose Mourinho prepared to offer an escape route for the former Tottenham man.

Meanwhile, the club could be preparing to drop their interest in Ivan Perisic. The winger has been one of the club’s top targets so far this summer, but Italian outlet Calciomercato believe that Inter Milan’s reluctance to sell may make them consider other options, with Red Bull Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg amongst them.

The 25-year-old Swedish international impressed for the Bundesliga newcomers last season and could now be subject to a €50 million (£44.6 million) bid from Manchester. That is the same price as Inter are demanding for 28-year-old Perisic, but they are also insisting they get Anthony Martial on loan as part of the deal.

Another player who could form part of the United attack next season is striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Daily Star claim that Jose Mourinho has been in contact with the Swede about a potential return when he reaches full fitness. That is expected to be around the Christmas period.

The 35-year-old suffered a horrific knee injury against Anderlecht in the Europa League and did not agree a new deal at Old Trafford before his contract expired at the end of June. He is still using club facilities as part of his rehabilitation and could even now re-join the Europa League winners.
