Manchester United could be preparing for a huge signing as the Daily Mail say that they will complete a £40 million move for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic this week. The move comes as Jose Mourinho looks to add to his midfield ranks, with the Serbian a top priority after the duo worked together at Stamford Bridge.
Matic, who celebrates his 29th birthday on Tuesday, is into the final year of his contract in west London and is now expected to join the Red Devils in time for the start of the season. With experience and quality, he will be a welcome addition alongside Ander Herrera in midfield.
Another deal is also close to completion, according to the Daily Star. They say that the club are close to agreeing a £48 million deal for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, despite manager Luciano Spalletti having ruled out any sale only this weekend. Perisic scored for Inter in their pre-season friendly against Chelsea on Saturday.
The deal has been one of the sagas of the summer given its on and off nature, with Spalletti having claimed that there had been no talks held for weeks. Despite that, these latest rumours may suggest that a deal is closer than the Italian would lead fans to believe, perhaps given his reluctance to lose a key player.
Those two agreements could be funded, in part, by the sale of midfielder Marouane Fellaini. Turkish outlet A Spor have gone as far to say that the Belgian has completed a move to Turkish outfit Galatsaray, signing a five year deal with the Super Lig side which is now only awaiting official confirmation.
Fellaini has become something of a scapegoat at Old Trafford since he joined the club from Everton in 2013, following in the footsteps of David Moyes. A divisive figure amongst fans, it is unlikely that he will be missed by many, with most just hoping that the club can recoup some of the £27.5 million paid for him four years ago.
