Newcastle United have been battling to hold onto Sean Longstaff this summer. Their prized asset is unsurprisingly being pursued after an impressive breakthrough last season.
According to various media outlets (including BBC Sport), Manchester United want to sign Longstaff. The Red Devils are eager to bolster their squad with young players who have proven their quality in England.
Longstaff fits the bill. Despite only making his breakthrough in 2018/19, he impressed enough to even turn Gareth Southgate’s head. But an injury ended his season prematurely and his chances of gaining an England call-up quite so soon.
Newcastle will be desperate to do all they can to keep Longstaff amid these Man United rumours. But the departure of Rafa Benitez might not have helped.
However, it seems that Longstaff is not the only central midfielder on Man United’s radar. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is weighing up his options and now John McGinn is a target.
According to The Sun, Manchester United are prepared to bid £50m for the 23-year-old Aston Villa star. And if they land McGinn, they would surely cool their interest in Longstaff.
Newcastle fans will be hoping this McGinn deal goes ahead. Longstaff has a bright future in the game and Newcastle want him to lead them into a new era with a new manager.
